Jacobi Wright led USC with 17 points (Gamecock Athletics)

Jacobi Wright scored a career high 17 points to lead USC to a 64-61 win at Ole Miss Saturday afternoon as the Gamecocks ended their eight game losing streak. Wright hit 6-9 shots from the floor including three from distance as the Gamecocks avenged an earlier season loss to the Rebels.

Hayden Brown had 18 points and Meechie Johnson 13 points for the Gamecocks. Josh Gray grabbed 13 rebounds as the Gamecocks battled the Rebels to a draw on the boards.

Leading scorer GG Jackson did not start for the second straight game and played just 12 minutes. He scored five points on five shots, had one rebound and committed four turnovers.

Ole Miss led at the break 38-35 and was up by four with 1:31 to play at 59-55. The Gamecocks got to within a point on a Johnson layup and free throw and then took the lead for good on a corner three by Wright with :44 to play. Johnson made three free-throws over the final 13 seconds as the Gamecocks built a five point lead.

The Gamecocks limited the Rebels to 1-for-7 shooting over the final six minutes, that one make being a meaningless layup in the final second.

USC is now 9-16 overall and 2-10 in the SEC and will host Vanderbilt Tuesday night.
