Coastal Carolina is 5-0 on the season and tied atop the Sun Belt East Division standings with James Madison at 2-0. This weekend, CCU will be going for its third consecutive 6-0 start to a season as the Chanticleers visit Louisiana-Monroe. That said, CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell believes there’s always a negative reason to point towards the Chanticleers’ success.

“We’re not stupid, we’ve heard that you won because of COVID; you won because of this; you won because of that,” Chadwell stated during his Wednesday press conference. “We get a lot of excuses for why we’re winning, instead of saying hey, ‘yall are a pretty good team, a pretty good program. I think our players have probably heard that and they’re sick and tired of hearing that.”

CCU will take the nation’s second longest FBS winning streak (8 games, tied with UCLA) into Saturday’s matchup at Louisiana-Monroe. The Warhawks are 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in SBC play under the direction of former Auburn head coach Terry Bowden. ULM holds a 3-1 lead in the series, which dates back to 2017, but CCU posted a 59-6 win last October in Conway. The triumphant team in each of the previous four games has tallied at least 45 points. Kickoff is set for 7pm CT (8pm ET) on ESPN+.
