Head coach Shane Beamer and several Gamecocks players met with the media, Tuesday, just hours after it was announced that this week’s home game against SC State has been moved up to Thursday due to concerns over the impact of Hurricane Ida.
South Carolina (2-2) is coming off its best offensive performance of the season, having posted 545 yards of offense against Charlotte in a 56-20 victory, Saturday. Marshawn Lloyd fueled the Gamecocks ground game, churning out a career-high 169 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Beamer will look to keep the momentum going in what has become a quick turnaround against SC State. Buddy Pough’s Bulldogs (1-2) are coming off a 41-27 road loss at NC A&T.
Beamer gave an update on the injury status of cornerback Darius Rush (questionable), offensive lineman Dylan Wonnum (doubtful) and defensive back David Spaulding (participated in practice). Beamer said that all others are “ready to go.”
The Gamecocks defense will have to keep tabs on Shaq Davis (Summerville HS), who is coming off a 127-yard receiving game. Davis hauled in three touchdowns from Corey Fields (Baptist Hill HS) in the Bulldogs 31-10 Celebration Bowl victory over Deion Sanders’ Jackson State Tigers.
Kickoff between SC State and South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium has been moved up to Thursday at 7 p.m.
