Following a physically demanding season-opening win over Army, the Coastal Carolina football team plays host to former Big South Conference rival Gardner-Webb this Saturday at 6pm in Conway. The two teams have not met since 2016, the year CCU began its transition into FBS level football. And it’s a pretty safe bet that the Bulldogs weren’t disappointed to see the Chanticleers make the move, as Gardner-Webb has lost twelve of its fourteen meetings with CCU, including five in a row.
On Wednesday, head coach Jamey Chadwell met with the media to preview the 15th meeting all-time between the two former rivals. Chadwell took a moment to reflect on last Saturday’s 38-28 victory over the Black Knights. He also warned his team, through the press conference, that the Bulldogs took Georgia Southern down to the wire last season in Statesboro, and if his team is not ready to play this weekend, “we’ve got a chance to get our tails kicked.”
