#STRecruiting: Conner rekindles interest with #Gamecocks following decommitment

Jayvontay Conner

USC was one of the final six with TE Jayvontay Conner (6-4 230) of Kernersville, NC when he committed to UCF in April. Conner had taken an unofficial visit to watch a spring practice and had been communicating with tight ends coach Jody Wright. Conner decommitted from UCF Tuesday and has opened his recruiting back up to all interested parties, and that includes the Gamecocks.

“I’m still very interested in South Carolina,” Conner said.  “I’m going to talk Coach Wright a little later on, but we talked briefly, and he was basically saying that they were still interested.  I’m going to still keep them under consideration. When I visited, it was a real cool experience. I really meshed with them.  I really loved the facilities.  When I watched them practice, they practiced with high intensity.  It’s a place I could see myself playing for.”

The other schools on the short list with Connor were Virginia Tech, Maryland, Florida State and Mississippi State. But he is looking to expand his opportunities and will take an unofficial visit to Alabama this Saturday.

“I’m just going to try to look at everything and take everything into consideration,” Conner said.  “Take time and do research on teams and just look into it.  I’m just interested in everybody that’s still interested in me, and all the coaches that reached out to me.  All the coaches I was previously cool with, I’m still cool with a lot of those coaches, and I’m starting to talk to some other schools.”

Conner has also taken unofficial visits to Virginia Tech, UCF, Florida State, Duke, South Florida, NC State and West Virginia. He has not yet scheduled any official visits. He was offered by Ole Miss and Oregon Tuesday night and also has among his offers Texas A&M, Miami and TCU.
