Monte Lee joins #SportsTalk to preview weekend in Virginia (AUDIO) #Clemson

Max Wagner leads the Tigers with a .393 batting average and is tops on the club in HR’s (Clemson Athletics)

The Clemson baseball team took its time getting to Virginia on Thursday and Interstate 85 was to blame. “It was a long bus ride. We ran into some traffic around Gaffney and it literally took us three hours to get from Clemson to Gaffney,” head coach Monte Lee said in joining #SportsTalk after practice on Thursday. The Tigers square off with Virginia this weekend in a critical three-game ACC series. Mack Anglin (5-4/3.65 ERA) will toe the rubber in the opener on Friday night at 6pm.

The Cavaliers will present a stiff challenge for the Tigers as UVA possesses the top pitching staff in the ACC. “They potentially will run three lefties at us this weekend. They’ve got a ball park that’s set up for pitching, it’s a big ball park,” Lee noted in describing the Cavaliers. “It’s a classic Virginia team that can swing the bat. Virginia is hitting .340 as a team at home, they are a really good team at home. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”

Lee also broke the news that his second leading hitter, catcher Cooper Ingle, did not practice on Thursday and is doubtful for Friday. Ingle, who left Tuesday’s contest against the College of Charleston with a forearn issue, might miss the entire weekend and will be looked at more closely next week. However, Tyler Corbett has returned to practice and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday as the DH for the Tigers.
