DE David Ojiegbe (6-3 235) of Washington, DC is a targeted prospect for Clemson in the 2023 class. He visited for a junior day earlier in the year and returned for the spring game earlier this month. He is closing in on making his decision with a commitment announcement date set for April 27th. And it’s good for the Tigers that they are fresh on his mind coming of this recent visit.
I loved talking to Coach Dabo Swinney and Coach Lemanski Hall and it allowed me to feel them out a little bit more,” Ojiegbe said. “They were telling me how I would fit into their sc heme and be used, and then they told me about the coaches they have and how everybody is “All In.” With Clemson, it’s all about the culture, really.”
Visiting with Swinney and Hall as he has the last few months, Ojiegbe has gotten a clear picture from them as to how he would be deployed in their defensive scheme.
“They see me as a defensive end who can also play the Jack (a hybrid of defensive end and linebacker),” he said. “They see me as a guy who can rush the passer and also stop the run and then sometimes drop back in coverage. That’s big to me, just being available and see how they can use me in different matchups. That shows they trust me a lot, so I have to take that into consideration.”
Swinney went into closer’s mode with Ojiegbe on his most recent visit. Was that enough to push the Tigers to the top of his list?
“He told me how I would be used and how bad they want me there,” Ojiegbe said. “He was telling all about the culture and what they could do for me, and of course, what I could help them do. I love the scheme they have and the culture there. It’s all about the family.”
Ojiegbe has also taken visits to Miami, Georgia and Maryland. Some of his other offers are Penn State, Maryland, North Carolina, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, NC State, Virginia Tech, Washington, Purdue, Georgia Tech and Duke.
