#STRecruiting: Transfer wide receiver commits to #Gamecocks

WR Antwane Wells is transferring to USC from JMU (James Madison Athletics)

A third transfer prospect who made an official visit to USC over the weekend has announced a commitment to the Gamecocks. WR Antwane Wells (6-1 204), who earned FCS All-American honors this season at James Madison, announced his decision to transfer to USC late Monday afternoon on Instagram and Twitter. He follows DE Terrell Dawkins from NC State and SAF Devonni Reed from Central Michigan as transfers committing to the Gamecocks.

The fourth official visitor for the weekend, RB Christian Beal-Smith, a transfer from Wake Forest, has yet to make his decision known. Wells accounts for the third of the three commitment alerts put out on Twitter by Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer since the weekend.

Wells is a native of Richmond who entered the Portal on January 5th. He was one of the best receivers in the FCS this season as a redshirt freshman. He earned second team All-American honors after catching 83 passes for 1250 yards and 15 touchdowns. In his two seasons with the Dukes, Wells had 116 catches for 1853 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Since announcing his transfer, Wells also picked up offers from Louisville, Auburn, North Carolina, UNLV, Coastal Carolina, ODU, Buffalo, ECU, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State and Miami. He had scheduled an official visit to North Carolina for this coming weekend.

With Wells on board, the Gamecocks now carry 29 names in their 2022 class including signees, commitments and transfer that must count in the class.
