USC starting quarterback suffered a foot injury in practice Friday (Gamecock Athletics)

USC starting quarterback Luke Doty injured his foot in Friday’s practice, multiple reports have confirmed today. Doty was reportedly meeting with doctors on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury. Both Mike Uva of WACH-Fox and Mike Gillespie of WOLO-ABC TV in Columbia are reporting the injury as a “mid-foot fracture and minor ligament damage.”

The Gamecocks are scheduled to scrimmage this afternoon shortly after 3:00 PM with head coach Shane Beamer to meet with the media afterwards.

With Doty out, transfer Jason Brown is next in line for the quarterback job followed by true freshman Colten Gauthier.

In seven games last season, Doty completed over 60% of his passes for 405 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also rushed for 91 yards. Doty took over as the quarterback in the 2nd half of the Missouri game last season and started the last two games. He has been locked in as the starter since spring practice.

We’ll have more details here and on social media during and following Coach Beamer’s press conference.
