Key Stats for Wake Forest: 4-5 last year with a Duke’s Mayo Bowl loss to Wisconsin (42-28). Head coach Dave Clawson is entering his 8th season at Wake Forest and his 13th overall as an FBS head coach. The Demon Deacons return 11 starters on offense and 9 on defense.
Sam Hartman (Oceanside Collegiate, SC) is back to helm the Demon Deacons after finishing 28th nationally in passing yards with 2,224 a year ago. He tossed 13 TDs with only five interceptions in 2020 and goes into the 2021 season with 5,038 career passing yards, ranking eighth in program history.
Defensively, the Deacons gave up 33 points per game last season, which ranked 12th in the ACC. So to try and improve that unit, Wake Forest brought in five transfers from Richmond to Harvard, and points in between. Malik Mustapha, Kevin Pointer, KJ Trujillo, Luiji Vilain, and Isaiah Wingfield have all joined the Deacons for this upcoming campaign.
Wake Forest has a Friday night opener on September 3rd against Old Dominion.
