Brady Allen hit a pair of home runs and drove in three, and freshman Will Sanders allowed one run over eight innings, as USC downed Georgia 5-1 in Athens Sunday to win that SEC series two games to one. It’s the Gamecocks’ first series win at Georgia since 2010.
Allen led off the game with a homer on the first pitch, and he added a two run shot in the fifth. Colin Burgess accounted for the Gamecocks’ other runs with a solo homer in the fifth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Sanders scattered eight hits and struck out four. He did not walk a batter. Fifteen of his 24 outs came on ground balls. Sanders improved to 5-1 on the season and Julian Bosnic pitched the ninth to earn his first save.
The Gamecocks are now 19-7 overall and 6-3 in the SEC. They will play North Carolina Tuesday night in Charlotte.
