USC did not drag out its recruitment of LB Danny Stutsman (6-3 215) of Winter Garden, FL before deciding he was offer worthy. A review of the film, some social media contact and phone calls, and Will Muschamp was ready to put his name on the offer board. Probably a wise decision considering Stutsman carries a three-star projection in the 247Sports composite and is ranked the 39th best outside linebacker in the country.
“It was kind of a fast process compared to some of the other offers I’ve got,” Stutsman said. “Two weeks prior a recruiting assistant followed me on Twitter and asked for my information and got to know me. Then more and more coaches started to follow me and got to know me real good. The head coach called me and he said can we get on the phone tomorrow. I called him and he told me the news. He liked my character, liked my film, liked who I was and threw up an offer.”
Stutstman posted impressive numbers last season. He totaled 110 tackles include 19 for loss and 3 sacks. He also deflected 4 passes, caused 2 fumbles and blocked 2 punts.
“I see myself as a tall, 6-3 lengthy linebacker who can make plays in the box and in the open field,” Stutsman said. “You highlight on that I can really fit in at any linebacker position they throw me in.”
Stutsman also displayed his talents on offense rushing for 202 yards on just 30 carries, and he caught 44 passes for 891 yards and 12 touchdowns. But the colleges like him for linebacker and that’s what he’ll be focusing on as he moves forward with his recruiting. Some of Stutsman’s other offers are Kentucky, Mississippi, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Illinois, Baylor, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, NC State, Oklahoma State and Nebraska.
“Talking to my offensive coordinator who went to Virginia Tech, he said South Carolina definitely is not a school you can just rule out right away,” Stutsman said. “You definitely have to see it for yourself before you can actually make a decision on whether that school is of interest or not. So, there’s definitely some interest there.”
Stutsman has visited Nebraska. Once he can go back on the road he plans to see USC, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Baylor and Minnesota. He’d like to make his decision before his senior season.
Rule out? Carolina should be at the top of the list for God’s sake.
