If one Ngata is good, two must be better. That’s Clemson’s thinking as the Tigers zero in on RB Daniyel Ngata (5-11 190) of Folsom, CA, the brother of Tigers’ freshman receiver Joseph Ngata. The younger Ngata has been no stranger to Clemson since his brother’s recruitment and he was back last Saturday for the spring game.
“Everything went well. The trip was successful,” Ngata said. “Talking to all of the coaches and all of the players went really good and, obviously, the spring game went really well. That all stood at me. Just the conversations with Dabo, Coach (Tony) Elliott and Coach (Jeff) Scott those are what stood out to me the most.”
Ngata got the chance to see his brother excel in front of 60,000 fans. Joseph showed he belongs in the big time with 5 catches for 127 yards. There’s no question Daniyel envisions himself doing likewise for the Tigers.
“I think Clemson is my top school right now. I like them a lot. I talk to all of the coaches there,” Ngata said. “It’s just a really good environment. I had a long conversation with every single one of the coaches – all of the assistant coaches – and a few of the players before the spring game, so it was really good to talk to them and learning about the program and all of that. After the game, me and Coach (Jeff) Scott caught up. He was just telling me that Clemson is taking two backs and they’re waiting for me. He was saying I can change a bunch of stuff in the offense, being a receiver out of the backfield and being a running back as well – just being a four-down back and playing the slot, too, if I’m comfortable with that. I feel really comfortable playing the slot and running back.”
Ngata said he’d like to make up his mind for sure sometime in June. Some of his other offers are Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Washington, LSU, Michigan and Alabama.
According to stats from MaxPreps, Ngata last season rushed for 874 yards and 10 touchdowns, caught 36 passes for 666 yards and 10 touchdowns and had 1725 all-purpose yards.
