Here’s the latest on South Carolina spring football practice from the head coach (AUDIO)

Shane Beamer feels the offense with QB LaNorris Sellers is ahead of where it was this time last spring (Ryan Bethea)

Key Comments from Beamer:

  • 65 play scrimmage on Saturday, three practices this week and then off for the Easter weekend.
  • Offense did a nice job of protecting the football on Saturday, been a point of emphasis, only one turnover in team setting, Peyton Williams punched out a fumble after a reception.
  • Thought the running backs flashed on Saturday, wind affected the passing game Saturday.
  • On Giwa, his group came for a practice and didn’t know him but noticed him on sideline, he had a great visit and wanted to return the next week, Giwa told him how much he loved the place, they didn’t throw a lot of money at him as was reported, he made one more visit to another school and then called back and committed. Hopes Giwa will be in Columbia in May, but certainly by the summer. Giwa is viewed as an offensive tackle by his coach/trainer Brandon Collier, but he could end up at tight end or defensive end, see how development goes over the summer.
  • Real pleased with the work Stan Drayton is doing with the running backs, holding them accountable and getting the best out of them.
  • Likes where they are on offense after 10 practices, ahead of last year at the same point of spring.
  • Loves that this team loves the physical side of the game, they’ve had 2-3 days where they’ve done live tackling to the ground, guys do a good job of playing physical when thudding up, have to work on being physical in the spring, can’t just turn it on in September.
