Dutch Fork DT Jaden Wuerth will be among the prospects who will visit South Carolina this weekend to watch spring practice and be recruited by Shane Beamer and his staff. In the case of Wuerth, Beamer and defensive line coach Travian Robertson have some catching up to do with Clemson.
After visiting the Tigers for their Elite Retreat day on March 7th, Wuerth has the Tigers clearly out front.
“They are at the top for me for sure at the moment,” Wuerth said. “Number one right now. Pretty big. I just like the atmosphere. The culture and how it fits with me. I’m still going to wait until July and see how things play out after my officials.”
Wuerth spent pretty much that entire Saturday at Clemson meeting with Dabo Swinney and defensive line coach Nick Eason, and taking in all the other activities they had to offer.
“I would say what I took away was how thorough they were,” Wuerth said. “I feel like they covered everything. And they covered stuff outside of football, like the academic side of things. That was pretty cool. It was more focused on the program as a whole, and not really getting into specific details D-line wise.”
For his part, the Gamecocks’ Robertson is doing what he can to keep his side in the game.
“I’ve been hearing from them a decent amount,” Wuerth said. “He’s been checking on me to see how I’m doing. They are excited to get me up there on Saturday. We’ll see how it goes.”
Wuerth has also visited Georgia Tech this spring. He has other visits set with Vanderbilt, NC State, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Maryland. And he has set his official visit with Clemson for the Tigers major recruiting weekend of May 29th.
Wuerth, who is originally from the Augusta area, had 62 tackles with 18 tackles for loss and 14 sacks as a junior. He recently earned defensive line MVP honors in a camp in Atlanta.
