  • In an emotional Class 4A final, North Augusta survived several South Pointe rallies to claim a 64-56 victory in double overtime to give the program its first state championship in boys basketball Saturday night.
  • It was tied at 47 at the end of regulation and 53 after the first overtime before the Yellow Jackets closed the second overtime period on a 11-3 run that included scoring the final six points to join the North Augusta girls as state champions in 2026.
  • North Augusta is the first school since Keenan in 2020 to sweep both boys and girls championships. South Pointe was the first school since 2014-2015 to win both the football and boys basketball state championship.
  • Quh’mareon Wedd scored 21 points and Jordan Rouse added 17 in pacing the Yellow Jackets to victory.
  • “I’m still trying to process everything,” North Augusta coach Tony Harrell said. “Two overtimes. Both teams left it all out on the floor. The senior leaders kept telling me we weren’t losing. They’ve been with me for five years. It’s just a tremendous feeling for our basketball team, school and community.”
  • This one was so emotional because on February 18, former Yellow Jacket player Cam’Ron Hallingquest was murdered in Augusta. The team had a T-shirt on the bench with his name and No. 4 on the back. Several players celebrated while holding the t-shirt after the game.
  • “We lost a great kid a few weeks ago,” Harrell said. “His spirit has been with us since we lost him. The team rallied around it, the community rallied around it and it’s just a great feeling right now.”
  • North Augusta (27-3) led by as many as 10 points early, but the Stallions (20-8) rallied each time. They had a chance to win the game in both regulation and the first overtime but shots at the buzzer came up short.
  • There would not be any heroics needed in the second overtime. South Pointe had its last lead at 53-52 at the end of the first overtime before Toian Nabriat tied it with a free throw with 25 seconds remaining.
  • Nabriat, who had 12 points and 12 rebounds, gave North Augusta the lead for good with a layup 16 seconds into the second OT. By the time Webb threw down a dunk with four seconds remaining, the celebration had begun.
  • Treven Raymon, who surpassed 2,000 career points in the semifinals, finished with 22 points for South Pointe.
