South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer apparently is going to have to go shopping for a new special teams coordinator. Matt Zenitz of CBSSports reported Sunday morning that the Gamecock Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Joe DeCamillis is going back to the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The story has also been reported by The State, TheBigSpur and Gamecock Central.
DeCamillis spent two seasons with the Gamecocks, replacing Pete Lembo when he became the head coach at the University of Buffalo. Before coming to Columbia, DeCamillis spent a season at Texas, and before that, he was in the NFL for 34 seasons.
DeCamillis and new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak are connected through Kubiak’s dad, former NFL quarterback and head coach Gary Kubiak.
DeCamillis was a nominee for the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach following the performance of his group in 2025. He had to replace every facet of his kicking game, and he produced the nation’s second-ranked freshman punter in Mason Love, a Freshman All-SEC performer in kickoff man Max Kelley, and an All-SEC return specialist in Vicari Swain. He also tutored walk-on placekicker William Joyce to a 12-15 season on field goals, and a perfect 31-31 on extra points.
Smart move – jump off a sinking ship before you go down with it. That schedule next year——-I’d guess 50/50 Beamer makes it to 9th game.
