Clemson made significant strides over the LSU game weekend with one of the best defenders in Kentucky. Garyon Hobbs (6-0, 215) of Louisville has secured national attention within his recruitment, and that momentum only continues to grow.
Hobbs is considered a unicorn at his position, able to play safety, nickel, and linebacker. Several top schools have taken notice, including Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma, among others, who are offering the talented prospect.
The Louisville native had the pick of the litter when it came to his week one visit, and it was Clemson that made the cut. The Tigers turned on the bright lights, packed the house, and put on a show of their environment for Hobbs, leaving him incredibly impressed by what he was able to take in.
“The pre-game atmosphere was different than any other place I’ve been,” Hobbs exclaimed. “There was a lot of energy in the building, and the coaches were super engaged, locked in, and ready to go.”
The next opportunity for a strong impression during his visit was the chance to see Tom Allen’s defense in action for the first time.
“I thought the defense was aggressive and played really hard,” Hobbs explained. “Coach Allen told me to expect them to swarm to the ball, and I could see that from the opening kickoff.”
Obviously, Clemson had a massive task ahead of itself on the field for the LSU opener. Off the field, several impressions were made on the nation’s top recruits, including Hobbs. So, Hobbs took in what Clemson had to offer and came away thinking this could be home for his collegiate career.
“Clemson really stands out to me at this point,” Hobbs pointed out following the LSU game visit. It’s “a place that I can see myself at.”
Hobbs visited Kentucky for the Ole Miss game in early September before checking out Indiana to watch the Hoosiers blow out Illinois. He is also planning to take visits to Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, Vanderbilt and SMU.
