DE Dre Quinn (6-4 217) of Buford, GA announced a decommitment from Clemson on Thursday night. The announcement came as no surprise as Quinn had visited Tennessee last Saturday, a violation of a policy held by Clemson coach Dabo Swinney which says none of his committed prospects can visit over schools while committed to Clemson.
Quinn committed to Clemson in June after taking official visits with the Tigers, Georgia Tech, Texas and Georgia. The day he committed to Clemson, Quinn said the program provided him everything he was looking for.
“They are big on faith. They are big on life after football. This just fit me from every aspect,” Quinn said. “They put players in the league. Great development. Great education. I just felt like that was the place for me.”
In many cases, when a player decommits from Clemson for the purpose of visiting other schools, he will continue to consider a return to the Clemson class. That apparently is not the case here as Thursday night Steve Wiltfong of On3 issued a projection of Quinn to Texas.
In five games this season, Quinn has 26 tackles with 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 7 hurries.
The game has changed and passed Dabo by, to some extent. Forcing players to not visit other schools after verbally committing doesn’t work as well with the current generation.
