South Carolina coach Shane Beamer met with the media on Tuesday afternoon in his first weekly session for the new seasons. Beamer covered a wide range of topics from his team’s scrimmage last Saturday to whether or now his wife bakes her cookies the proper amount of time.
- Some of the key comments from Beamer:
- No update on Faison. Missed practice Sunday due to bruise in shoulder from Saturday scrimmage. He was at practice today. Hopes to get good news on Faison’s eligibility soon. Has respect for the NCAA.
- No new major injuries that will keep players out of the opening game. Freshman DE Kobby Sakyi-Prah is out with a lower body injury that will take some time to overcome; DB Jackson Burger is also out for an extended period with an injury.
- Lots of praise for the Blanchard family and their contributions to the program; lots of praise for the Netflix series and the exposure for the program; claps back at those criticizing the way his wife makes her cookies.
- They have more depth at running back and receiver since he’s been here, and they all want the ball.
- No turnovers by the offense in the scrimmage. 117 plays. Saw young guys make play. Punted the ball well. Did good things with the special teams.
- They have punted the ball well, they’ve kicked it well, so pleased with that, made some improvement in the the return game, generally pleased with what he’s seen in special teams.
- Jackson Repp has a chance to figure in and help them down the road after some weight room work, was very impressive in their seven on sevens last summer, is coming off a knee injury.
- Wasn’t an easy decision for Harbor to give up track to focus on football, he gave up his love of track and poured it into football, he has improved a lot and is having fun out there.
- Behind Sellers and Doty at quarterback, competition continues with Cutter Woods and Air Noland doing good things. There’s ability in the room and they continue to improve.
- The dynamics in the staff room with the offense is very good, great communication with Mike Shula, very transparent, has been fantastic with him, great human being and big time coach.
