Rivals analysts, including lead national analyst Steve Wiltfong, are projecting Northwestern SAF Tamarion Watkins will commit to Texas A&M later this week. South Carolina had long been considered his favorite. If this pans out, it’s a major hit taken by the Gamecocks.
The next USC target to come off the board will be SAF Jowell Combay (6-2 190) of Marietta, GA. He will announce his plans around 5:00 PM on Wednesday at his school. Combay has a final list of USC, Tennessee, Georgia, Missouri and Wisconsin. He made official visits to all of his favorites except Georgia, which he has visited unofficially. Combay made an unofficial visit to USC in April, and he took his official visit with the Gamecocks on June 6th. About the Gamecocks, Combay said in late June, “I have a good feeling towards them. South Carolina is known for Coach (Torrian) Gray for his development. I know South Carolina is a good place.” As for the projections, On3 has Tennessee as a slight favorite over USC while 247Sports had no projections as of Monday night.
Combay kicks off a critical recruiting stretch for the Gamecocks as they sit on ten commitments at this point. Four other targets are slated to announce within a week…CB Samari Matthews and OT Jabian Shabazz on Friday, OG Tre Aiken on Saturday and SAF Tamarion Watkins on Monday.
Syracuse DE Kingjoseph Edwards of Hoschton, GA, who was recruited by South Carolina, is transferring from Syracuse after one season. He played in five games last season thus retaining his redshirt. He made five tackles with three sacks.
Clemson QB target for 2027 Peyton Houston is being projected to Southern Cal by On3.
South Carolina target 6-9 Justin Caldwell plans to visit Ohio State November 1st per Phenom Hoops. This summer he has visited the Gamecocks and Georgetown unofficially.
