STRecruiting: South Carolina gets the last shot with WR Somourian Wingo this weekend

Highly regarded WR Somourian Wingo (6-2 175) of Saint Augustine, FL makes his final official visit this weekend at South Carolina. He has also been to Miami and Florida for official visits. Those three make up his finalists after also having Alabama and LSU on his short list.

USC receivers coach Mike Furrey and head coach Shane Beamer have made the strong push for the Gamecocks in the battle against the home state programs. They’ve gotten Wingo’s attention, and he’s looking forward to visiting up close with the coaches and others this weekend.

“Really just building that relationship with the coaches and the people all around.  Just having a good time,” Wingo said.  “They tell me this will definitely be my best visit, and they are really looking forward to it.  They say I’m one of their highest recruits, and they can’t wait to have me.”

This will not be Wingo’s first visit to USC. He was in for the Texas A&M game last season, a huge win for the Gamecocks under the lights at Williams-Brice. Wingo said he has nothing but positive memories from that visit.

“The people there, the campus, and what it’s like over there in Columbia,” Wingo said.  “The main thing that I remember is the people and how much South Carolina football means to them.”

Wingo had a big junior season with 71 catches for 1119 yards and 14 touchdowns. He said coaches like what he brings to the field, and how he carries himself off the field.

“My size and my personality, those are the main things,” Wingo said.  “My size.  My playmaking skills.  My personality. Me as a person.”

The Gamecocks, who loaded up on wide receivers in the 2025 class, do not yet have a receiver commitment for the 2026 class. Miami is also without a receiver commitment, while Florida has two.

Wingo does not have a commitment date but is eying a decision in late July.
