Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke hit pay dirt with his recruiting efforts again on Thursday night as OT Carter Scruggs (6-6 290) of Leesburg, VA announced for the Tigers over Michigan, Penn State and Georgia.
Typical of Clemson recruiting in the month of June, Scruggs made his official visit to Clemson last weekend, and that prompted him to bring his recruiting to a close without taking another official visit. He was scheduled to see Michigan, Penn State and Georgia the next three weekends.
Clemson seemed to move into a power position with Scruggs following his visit for the Elite Retreat on March 8th. Luke made his visits to see Scruggs in the spring, and then the official visit last weekend culminated the process.
“I have a really good relationship with the whole staff, especially with Coach Luke and Coach Swinney,” Scruggs said last week. “We are very consistently in communication. The message from them is that they can develop me the best out of all the schools, get a great education, and have the opportunity to compete and play early. They always make sure that I am a priority to them, as well.”
Like every other Clemson before him, Scruggs found a comfort level during his visits to the campus and connected with those with whom he’s been involved.
“I really like the culture that they have there, and with Matt Luke, I can develop and have an elite culture,” Scruggs said. “I also really like the players and all of the coaches. I also have a lot of family that went there, so I grew up around Clemson.”
Scruggs gives Luke a complete offensive line room for 2026 with six commitments for the three positions. The Tigers now have 17 commitments overall for their 2026 class.
