South Carolina forward Myles Stute posted on his social media account on April 1st that he planned to return to the Gamecocks next season. SportsTalkSC later confirmed that the NCAA had granted Stute a waiver for another season. But there was still one hurdle to clear.

Stute needed to be cleared by the team’s doctors after blood clots forced him to the sideline in January. South Carolina announced Friday afternoon Stute has been medically approved and will return to the Gamecocks for what will be his third season with the Gamecocks after transferring from Vanderbilt.

Stute will be one of three players from last year’s team to return for next season joining Jordan Butler and Cam Scott.

USC release on Myles Stute returning for the 2025-26 season

Senior guard Myles Stute has been granted a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA for another year of eligibility and will return to South Carolina for the 2025-26 season. He started the first 14 games of the season in 2024-25 for the Gamecocks before being sidelined the rest of the year due to lower leg deep vein thrombosis (blood clot). Stute has been medically cleared to resume all basketball activities.

The team will begin its offseason program the first week of June.

“I want to thank coach Paris and the entire coaching staff for their continued belief in me throughout this process, as well as our entire medical staff here for their help with getting me back to being healthy and able to play the game I love,” said Stute. “It hasn’t been easy, but I’m thankful for every single person who has helped play a part in my recovery, and I’m very excited and looking forward to getting on the court with my new teammates in June and beginning the journey of this upcoming season.”

“Myles is a great teammate and an incredibly hard worker,” said head coach Lamont Paris. “You hate for any young person to have their career end under such difficult circumstances. Through it all, though, Myles’ support for his teammates was tremendous. That’s just who he is – a terrific young man with great perspective. It’s very easy to root for Myles. What a special moment it was to hear the gratitude and emotion in Myles’ voice when he learned he would be granted an additional year of eligibility. It was rivaled only by the news from the doctors that treatment of his condition had been a success and that he was medically cleared to proceed working out and playing without limitations. I am so excited for Myles and his family for this opportunity.”

In two seasons at South Carolina, Stute has played in 41 games (31 starts) and averaged 7.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. He’s 36.5% (65-of-178) from behind the arc while wearing a Gamecock uniform.

He helped lead the team to a 91-88 overtime victory against No. 25 Clemson back on Dec. 17 this season. Stute scored 19 points with five rebounds, two assists and a block against the Tigers. He was 5-of-7 (71.4%) from behind the arc in the rivalry game victory.

Stute was a vital cog in South Carolina’s memorable 2023-24 season, averaging 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in helping the team tie the single-season school record for wins with 26 and a return appearance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017. He had seven games where he made three or more 3s and the team was 7-0 in those contests. Stute scored in double-figures 13 times and the team was 13-0 in those games where he scored 10 or more points. He had a season-high 21 points in a neutral site victory against Virginia Tech at the Spectrum Center on Nov. 10. Stute came off the bench to hit a trio of 3s and four clutch free throws in the Gamecocks’ 63-59 upset win at No. 5/5 Tennessee, the program’s first top-five road win since 1997.
