South Carolina remained undefeated by passing its first midweek challenge of the season with a 5-3 victory over Winthrop at Rock Hill, Tuesday.
After falling behind 3-2, the Gamecocks plated the go-ahead runs in the top of the fifth on Talmadge LeCroy’s two-run double. An inning later, Nathan Hall doubled in KJ Scobey with the game’s final run. Leftfielder Kennedy Jones had pair of hits, including a first-inning homer.
Brandon Stone (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Jarvis Evans, Jr. Parker Marlatt and Brendan Sweeney held the Eagles scoreless over the final two frames to keep USC perfect through four games. Gamecocks pitchers didn’t surrender a walk in the game.
