Going back over the last ten meetings, four of them had Noon kickoffs with Clemson winning three.
In 2014, the rivalry game kicked off at 12:02 p.m. at Death Valley. Deshaun Watson directed the Tigers to a 35-17 victory. Wayne Gallman rushed for a career-high 191 yards and a score in the win.
The 2015 edition of the rivalry took place at Williams-Brice Stadium and kicked off at 12:01 p.m. Clemson made it two in a row with a 37-35 win over the Gamecocks. Shawn Elliott was at the helm for USC and it was Pharoh Cooper’s final game in Garnet and Black. Watson threw for 279 yards and added 114 yards on the ground, accounting for four scores in the 37-35 victory.
Four years later, Clemson and USC drew another early kickoff (12:02 p.m.) in Columbia. The Tigers rolled to a 38-3 victory behind Trevor Lawrence’s three passing touchdowns and a suffocating defensive effort. Tee Higgins caught two scoring passes from Lawrence and his former teammate, Tavien Feaster, rushed for 47 yards in his final collegiate game after transferring from Clemson to USC.
The Gamecocks halted the Tigers’ winning streak in the most recent “early kick.” In 2022, USC defeated Clemson 31-30 following a 12:07 kickoff. The Tigers got out to a 14-0 lead before Spencer Rattler and Antwane (Juice) Wells, Jr. got cooking. The Gamecocks rushed for just 55 yards but Rattler threw for 360 yards, 131 of which went to Wells, as USC mounted a second-half comeback. After trailing 23-14 at halftime, Rattler hit Wells with a 72-yard scoring pass to trim Clemson’s lead to two heading into the fourth quarter. Mitch Jeter’s 35-yard field goal put USC ahead and the Gamecocks’ defense made it hold up.
