South Carolina is planning another big recruiting weekend when it hosts Texas A&M on November 2nd and that will include some official visits. DT Kelten Mickell (6-2 295) of Jones JC, MS has his official visit with the Gamecocks set for that weekend. He was actually scheduled to visit a few weeks ago but defensive tackles coach Travian Robertson moved the visit to November 1st.
Mickell has never visited USC and what he knows about the program he primarily has learned from Robertson.
“Just talking about how it’s a great program for me to fit right in with them and try to come in and be able to come in and try to win me a spot,” Mickell said. “We talk every now and then, just taking the time to get to know each other a little bit.”
The official visit will give Mickell the chance see what the USC program has to offer him. He also will have the opportunity to continue building the relationship with Robertson.
“The relationship that me and Coach T-Rob have already built, looking to pursue that again,” Mickell said. “Me being in JUCO, I also want to see if it’s somewhere that I can really just fit myself in and be able to play right away.”
If all goes well, Mickell said he could see a commitment to the Gamecocks popping during the weekend or soon after.
“They are really my top one,” Mickell said. “They are at the top of my board right now.”
Mickell took an official visit to Utah State two weekends ago. He has been committed to Liberty, but that has not stopped him from checking out other options. He has also been offered by Georgia, Miami, Houston, Boise State, Southern Miss, ULM, Arkansas State and Troy.
Mickell said he will be joined on the official visit by his mother, grandmother and defensive line coach at Jones.
Through seven games this season Mickell has recorded 22 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
