The hiring of Paul Mainieri as the new head baseball coach at South Carolina was made official late Tuesday afternoon. The University also announced the coaching staff that will work under Mainieri. Only one coach from the previous staff was retained, Monte Lee.
Lee, who was a candidate to replace his former boss Mark Kingston, instead will remain as the Associate Head Coach under Mainieri. He received a three year contract, which at $550,000 per season, makes him the highest paid assistant coach in all of college baseball.
Tuesday night, Lee joined us on SportsTalk and shared his thoughts on the new era of Gamecock baseball under Mainieri.
