ATH Jaquel Holman (6-2 200) of Blackville-Hilda wanted his parents to visit South Carolina and meet head coach Shane Beamer before moving forward with his recruitment. He had plans for other visits, but those plans are off now. Holman announced a commitment to the Gamecocks Saturday afternoon after his unofficial visit.
Holman camped with the Gamecocks eight days ago and impressed the coaches with his speed. The Gamecocks offered him after his performance.
Holman could be a linebacker, or he could be a running back. He rushed for over 1600 yards last season. But, most of his conversations have been with linebackers coach Clayton White and secondary coach Torian Gray indicating the Gamecocks view him more for defense.
Holman called USC his “dream school” after getting the offer, and he knew the Gamecocks were strongly interested when he made his camp appearance.
“When they laid eyes on me since last fall, I went to the Furman game,” he said last week. “They were in touch ever since then. They were just like, put on at the camp so Coach Beamer can see. I was talking to Coach (Torian) Gray, and he said to put on at the camp so Coach Beamer could see and hopefully can get you an offer. They stuck to their word, so I did what I was supposed to do, and I walked out of their with an offer. I just really love the coaching staff, and the facilities are incredible.”
Once the Gamecocks offered, it appeared to be just a matter of time before Holman committed. But he took the full week to think things over, and while he earnd a lot from defensive coordinator Clayton White, he said this week he never felt under the gun to commit.
“One thing I like, they haven’t pressured me to commit. They say we ready whenever you are ready. That’s why I really like them also because they aren’t pressuring me to commit. At the end of the day, I’m going to make the best decision for myself.”
Homan is the eighth commitment for the Gamecocks 2025 class and the the fourth from South Carolina.
