Riverside WR Mikkel Skinner (6-3 210) is seeing his recruiting status improve as the spring goes on. Skinner is excelling with his seven-on-seven team, and college coaches are taking note. That includes South Carolina receives coach Mike Furrey. He hasn’t offered Skinner yet, but the two are talking.

“He’s telling me how much potential I have and to keep working,” Skinner said.  “I play seven-on-seven and he was there to watch me because his son plays for Gaffney.  He finally got a chance to see me, and he saw my potential and said I did very well matching up against an Ohio State commit DB and went off in that game against Cam Newton’s team, and really was impressed with me. and saying I have the potential to be the best wide receiver in the state.”

Furrey is interested enough in Skinner to have him in come in for the Gamecocks’ spring practice scrimmage last Saturday.

“I got to see them getting better overall as a team,” Skinner said.  “See how they work and how they do little things to get better in the fundamentals.  How they practice every little thing. The wide receiver room is not very deep.  I see that Mazeo (Bennett) is coming along and he’s working with him well.”

Skinner said Furrey wants a little more time with him before making an offer.

“Come back for camp, and me and him are going to get some one-on-one time, just me and him,” Skinner said.

Skinner also visited USC for a junior day in January, and he might be back for the spring game next weekend.

Skinner was recently offered by Ohio State after they got a look at his recent seven-on-seven play.

“The cornerback that was on me the whole game was an Oho State commit, and so I kind of blew up,” Skinner said. ‘Interviewers started talking to me and I kind of got my name out that way.  They were looking at me before anyway and seeing that and then going back and watching my film.”

Cincinnati has been strong on Skinner, and he visited them last weekend. He is scheduled for an official visit with the Bearcats May 31st. This summer he’s also looking at visits to Virginia, Tech, Ohio State and Florida State. This spring he also has visited Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and Florida.

Skinner, whose cousin Jaleel Skinner started out at Miami and is now a tight end at Louisville, had 44 catches for 61 yards and scored a total of 15 touchdowns last season.
