Irmo QB AJ Brand (6-1 200) landed his second Power Five offer Friday while he was on a visit to Virginia Tech. The Hokies and South Carolina are the two major program offers for Brand who is being recruited as a quarterback and a safety.
Brand visited USC for a practice March 19th, the first practice in pads for the Gamecocks this spring.
“The energy is definitely there, it’s just a younger group,” Brand said. “They are trying to just come together as one the longer it goes.”
A mix of coaches, led by head coach Shane Beamer, is keeping in touch with Brand for the Gamecocks. He’s also talking with receivers coach Mike Furrey, tight ends coach Shawn Elliott and secondary coach Torrian Gray.
“I hear from them all the time,” Brand said. “It’s like a second home down there because it’s so close. I definitely love it. It’s real family oriented and I have a great connection with them.”
Brand plans to visit Georgia Tech this week. He also wants to visit Memphis. As for official visits, he hasn’t set any yet, but he plans to with USC, Virginia Tech and Memphis.
While the Gamecocks are floating quarterback and safety with him, the other schools are recruiting him strictly as a quarterback. Last season Brand passed for 2932 yards and 45 touchdowns and rushed for 1113 yards and 17 touchdowns.
