Williams-Brice Stadium: South Carolina was sitting on a precarious three-point lead in their game against 15-point underdog Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium, and the visiting Gamecocks had driven to the USC 15 with just over two minutes left.
A disastrous 5th straight defeat was hanging in the balance for USC, and then the defense flat-out stoned Jax State.
Linebacker Stone Blanton stepped in front of a Zion Webb pass at the 12 and streaked down the sideline for a game clinching 88-yard touchdown as USC survived 38-28 in front of an announced crowd of over 75,000. The Gamecocks improved to 3-6 on the season and kept alive their hopes of qualifying for a bowl game with three home games remaining.
Spencer Rattler had another stellar home performance completing 27 of 38 passes for 399 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and Xavier Legette also was huge with nine catches for 217 yards and two scores.
The defense also stepped up creating four turnovers snapping a streak of three straight turnover less games.
The Gamecocks return to Williams-Brice Stadum next Saturday for another Noon kickoff against Vanderbilt.
