Gamecocks defensive coordinator Clayton White addressed the media, Wednesday, as South Carolina continues its preparations for a trip to Texas A&M. USC has struggled on the defensive side of the ball, surrendering 34 points/game in conference play and more than 31 points/game overall.
A week after giving up more than 400 yards through the air against Florida, the Gamecocks allowed over 200 yards rushing to Missouri. Not only has USC given up yards in chunks against SEC opponents, but they’ve struggled to get off the field, allowing opponents to convert 42% of their third-down opportunities and 66% on fourth down.
South Carolina has dealt with injuries to every level of its defense, forcing the healthy personnel to play an abundance of snaps. The Gamecocks will face off this weekend against a Texas A&M (4-3, 2-2) club coming off consecutive conference losses to Alabama and Tennessee. The Aggies won the first eight matchups between the teams before USC came away with a 30-24 victory in Columbia last season. Kickoff from College Station, Tex. is scheduled for noon, Saturday.
