If you believe in trap games, Coastal Carolina is set to face one on Saturday. After a loss at UCLA and a win against Jacksonville State, the Chanticleers face FCS member Duquesne this weekend in Conway. The matchup is sandwiched between Tim Beck’s first victory as head coach at CCU and the Sun Belt Conference opener next Thursday versus Georgia State. And while fans may worry about the team looking ahead, Beck doesn’t seem concerned about him or his players staying focused.
“I haven’t looked at ’em,” Beck told the media on Wednesday when asked about next week’s matchup with the Panthers, while conceding that the quick turnaround won’t be easy. “It’s a hard thing for young men. You’re going to see a different offense; you’re going to see a different defense. Hopefully, with it being a conference game, it’ll get our attention and keep our focus in a short week.”
Saturday’s 7pm kickoff will mark the first meeting between Coastal Carolina and Duquesne in football, with CCU’s nationally televised league opener against Georgia State set for next Thursday at 7:30pm.
