After experiencing Southern California and the Rose Bowl last weekend, the Coastal Carolina football team is looking forward to some home cooking this weekend. CCU will host Jacksonville State on Saturday night at 7pm, in what will be the first of three straight home games for the Chanticleers.
The Gamecocks—yes, there is a flock outside of Columbia—are 2-0 on the season after wins over UTEP and East Tennessee State. Jacksonville State, which is beginning its first year as a Football Bowl Subdivision member and Conference-USA affiliate, is under the direction of former Clemson offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who also served as head coach at West Virginia, Michigan, and Arizona prior to taking over JSU in 2022, brings a high-octane offense into Conway to face their barnyard brethren. The Gamecocks also boast a defense that is allowing just under nine points per game.
On Wednesday, CCU head coach Tim Beck met with the media to reflect on his team’s performance against UCLA and to look ahead to Saturday’s home opener at Brooks Stadium.
