Game week for South Carolina is next week but the Gamecocks are sore of in game week mode now with the way they are handling this week. And that includes the normal Shane Beamer press conference on Tuesday. Most of the heavy lifting for this camp is over and now is the time to fine tune and get healthy for the opener against North Carolina a week from Saturday.
Some of Beamer’s top comments Tuesday:
- Today was a normal practice and the rest of the week will be normal with Friday a day for doing some situational things.
- 113 plays in the Saturday night scrimmage, had one 18 play drive led by Rattler, had a two-minute 14 play drive, they had been looking to develop some long drives in camp and it came together in the scrimmage.
- They have practiced tough and physical in camp and will continue to do so. Good shape injury wise at this point, expecting all those who have been banged up some in camp to be ready for North Carolina.
- Rattler is a lot more comfortable, knows his teammates better, leadership has grown, more vocal and more confident, relationship with Loggains is fantastic.
- Knox practiced for the last week and scrimmaged, missed two days of practice with the knee, he’s been fantastic, really good in the run game, understands leverage and where he needs to be.
- New DE Drew Tuazama knew USC DT Elijah Davis from JUCO, and that helped them land him, he graduated from UAB and entered the Portal and then they contacted him, expects him to be ready to play vs UNC.
- LB Pup Howard was out of the non-contact jersey today and is good to go.DE Tyreek Johnson did not practice today, would put him in the probable category for North Carolina.
- Brown, Legette, Wells would be their top three receivers at this point, assuming Wells is healthy.
- Expects Wells and Harbor to play vs UNC, they are not full go right now, Wells was running around some today but not involved in full practice.
- Luke Doty remains the backup quarterback, Sellers has looked good and done some good things, likes the way the quarterback room looks right now.
