It was just a few short weeks ago when USC looked like a lock as a top four finisher in the regular season SEC standings which would guarantee a spot in the main draw of the league tournament. However, the Gamecocks lost their final four league series and finished with a 16-13 SEC record.
The Gamecocks will now be the 6th seed for the tournament and will face #11 Georgia in the tournament’s first game Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM Eastern Time. The winner of the single elimination game will face #3 seed LSU Wednesday morning.
The Gamecocks played their first SEC series of the season in Athens in March and swept the Bulldogs by scores of 5-4, 12-2 in seven innings and 12-1 in seven innings. The Bulldogs are 29-26 overall and were 11-19 in SEC play.
