Mark Kingston sizes up the Vols (AUDIO)

Mark Kingston is hoping a tweak to his swing will get Ethan Petry back on track (Gamecock Athletics)

It was a late night and early morning in the USC baseball offices as the Gamecocks had to put last night’s 11-9 loss to Charlotte in the rearview mirror to begin preparing for this weekend’s encounter with Tennessee. While Carolina is mired in a late-season slump, the Volunteers have won 13 of their last 16 heading into the matchup with USC. Tennessee’s issue has been the road, where the Vols are just 2-11 this season away from Knoxville. Game one in Columbia is set for 7pm on Thursday.

On Wednesday, USC head coach Mark Kingston met with the media to preview the final regular-season series of the year. Kingston touched on a recurring theme with his team: the injury situation. He also detailed what makes Tennessee a difficult matchup and how his coaching staff is preparing for the postseason.

  1. Once the Vols win 2 of 3 or sweep the Yardcocks in this end of the season series, hopefully things will be set in motion to end the miserable tenure of Mark Kingston. A likely quick exit in Hoover followed by an exit in a Regional ought to get the ball rolling.
