Clemson head men’s basketball coach Brad Brownell has been lurking in the transfer portal since the Tigers’ season came to an end with a loss to Morehead State in the N.I.T. On Thursday, he landed a commitment from UNC-Greensboro graduate transfer Bas Leyte. The 6-10 native of the Netherlands averaged 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game this past season for the Spartans, who finished third in the Southern Conference with an overall record of 20-12.
Leyte is the third transfer for Brownell and the Tigers this offseason, joining Jake Heidbreder out of the Air Force Academy and Jack Clark from NC State. Illinois high school product Asa Thomas signed with Clemson during the fall.
Leyte’s junior season was the most productive of his career at UNCG. In thirty-one games, with 19 starts, he shot 54% from the field, averaging ten points per game and six boards an outing. For his career, Leyte is a 50% shooter, scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds per game in 49 starts.
