The 2022 football season didn’t end the way Coastal Carolina hoped, as the Chanticleers were bested by East Carolina 53-29 in the Birmingham Bowl. You might think that spring practice didn’t end well either, as CCU was forced to cancel its spring game due to weather. However, first-year head coach Tim Beck would disagree.
“We were able to get everything done we needed to get done,” Beck told Sun Belt Conference media members during a Zoom call on Thursday. “Our players are adapting to our coaches, our style, our system. It was part of the reason why I didn’t feel like playing in a game in adverse conditions, going out, keeping our guys healthy to get ready for the season. I didn’t think we were going to gain anything by practicing.”
Beck also passed along good news regarding wide receiver Jared Brown, who was injured in the Birmingham Bowl. He also stressed how big of a deal it was that QB Grayson McCall returned to Coastal after initially putting his name in the transfer portal.
