The USC-Clemson baseball rivalry takes center stage this weekend with the series opener set for Doug Kingsmore Stadium Friday night. The series moves to Fluor Field in Greenville Saturday and wraps up at Founders Park Sunday. Clemson has won the last four meetings and leads the series 185-143-2.
Clemson will be without their #1 starter for the weekend. Ryan Ammons is sidelined with some arm soreness. That means Austin Gordon will move up to Friday’s starting role. USC is set to go with regular Friday starter Will Sanders.
The Gamecocks are 9-0 and lead the nation with 27 home runs. They have a team batting average of .322 and a team ERA of 2.00. The Tigers are 4-4 and have lost four in a row. They’re hitting .311 as a team with seven home runs, but the Tigers have stolen 28 bases in 33 attempts. Their staff is 4.31.
Thursday night USC coach Mark Kingston and Clemson coach Erik Bakich joined us for separate interviews on SportsTalk to give their final takes on the big series.
