The official end of the 2023 recruiting season for South Carolina could not have been better for Shane Beamer. He closed out the high school phase with the signings of WR Elijah Caldwell of Northwestern and TE Nyck Harbor of Washington, DC. Caldwell was a given as he had committed earlier in the month. Harbor was pretty much a mystery to the end.
Harbor had narrowed his choices to USC, Oregon, Maryland, Michigan and Miami and apparently was somewhat undecided leading up to his 1:10 PM announcement on ESPN2. Beamer said he even got an audio message from Harbor in the middle of the night that led him to believe things were not trending towards the Gamecocks.
However, Beamer said he had a conversation with Harbor not long before he made his announcement, and though he didn’t know for sure at the time, he felt then the likelihood of signing him was good.
Beamer also credited USC track coach Curtis Frye with a major assist in the recruitment of Harbor, who is, according to Frye, a generational track talent as a sprinter.
