“Back in Black”: Chase Briscoe looks forward to #NASCAR playoffs at #Darlington (AUDIO)

If you didn’t know better, the #14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford is being piloted by its owner. And Chase Briscoe is quite happy for you to make that mistake. Briscoe, not Tony Stewart, is actually behind the wheel of the Mustang, but the former Xfinity Series driver doesn’t mind the comparison.

“For me, it’s a dream situation,” Briscoe told #SportsTalkSC on Thursday. “Tony was my hero growing up… if I could have picked any car to drive, it would have been the #14 car. I feel like Tony kinda sees a little bit of himself in me. We just have a lot of things that we’re a lotta like in. Definitely cool to get that #14 car back in the playoffs where it belongs.”

Briscoe will make his Cup Series debut this weekend at Darlington, following an emotional (and milestone) victory at Phoenix in March.

“We won so early in the season, we’ve had a long time to think about the playoffs,” said Briscoe. “All the work, effort you put in and then to find out that you’re the 200th winner, it was just a super cool day. And then, obviously, to qualify for the playoffs as well. 1 of 200 on anything is a pretty cool list to be on.”

The Indiana native is also hoping to tap into a little Pee Dee “magic” by running a paint scheme that pays homage to the “Lady in Black”.

Chase took a few moments on Thursday to visit with #SportsTalk to chat about the playoffs and his beloved Indianapolis Colts.
