#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks still tracking LB prospect Montgomery

Michael Montgomery

USC probably felt they had filled their quota at linebacker for the 2023 class with commitments from Grayson Howard and Jaden Robinson. Howard is still a go for the Gamecocks, but Robinson recently decommitted and is now in the Florida camp. So, the work continues for defensive coordinator and linebacker coach Clayton White to fill that spot.

One prospect he remains in touch with is Michael Montgomery (6-3 200) of Seattle. Montgomery moved to Georgia in the spring but has since returned to the Seattle area. He confirmed Wednesday White is still in touch with him.

“Yea, I talk to coach white on the daily,” Montgomery wrote in a direct message.

White offered Montgomery in the spring after he had visited for a practice. That was his first SEC offer and after receiving it, he expressed how much he appreciated White extending him the opportunity to play in that league.

“Obviously, the SEC is one of the best conferences to go to where I want to go, which is the league,” Montgomery said in April. “I feel like it’s very much a blessing. When I went down there, I felt the vibe and everything. I just felt like it was a good school for me.”

Montgomery was offered Wednesday night by Arizona. Some of his other major offers are Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Washington and Oregon. He visited Georgia Tech in June. He’s also made stops at Oregon, Washington, Southern Cal, TCU and UCLA.
