#STRecruiting Notebook 7-22

SAF Vacari Swain of Carrollton, GA said he will be cutting his list by Wednesday of next week to a final 3-4 schools. He currently has a short list of USC, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Duke and Maryland. He has not set a date for a commitment announcement, but sometime in August looks possible. Swain said he continues to hear regularly from Gamecock assistants Torrian Gray and Marcus Satterfield. He said USC, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State are the strongest three with him, and Vandy is making a particularly strong push. Swain will take an unofficial visit to Mississippi State next Friday. He has taken official visits to USC, Vanderbilt and Maryland.

2024 USC quarterback commitment Dante Reno returned from his vacation in Aruba Wednesday night, and as far as reclassifying for 2023, he said that’s still something he has to talk about with the USC staff and his family. He did talk some with quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield Thursday. Reno said he’s keeping an open mind about, has not personal feelings about it, and is now getting focus on his upcoming season with his team.

DE Tyree Weathersby of Douglasville, GA committed to Tennessee July 1st but said he communicates weekly with USC defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey. Weathersby’s only official visit thus far was to Tennessee in June, and he said he’s talking with Lindsey about a visit in September. Weathersby said Georgia and Mississippi State also are communicating with him, especially Georgia in terms of intensity. He still considers his commitment to Tennessee to be firm.

USC target WR Carmelo Taylor of Roanoke, VA is delaying his commitment announcement. Taylor was scheduled to reveal his choice July 25th but announced on Twitter that he needed more time in making his decision. He took official visits to USC, Virginia Tech and Penn State in June. He also has West Virginia and Maryland on his short list. Taylor also is a track standout in the sprints.

USC target WR Daidren Zipperer of Lakeland, FL has set September 24th for his commitment announcement. Last month Zipperer named a top six of USC, Pitt, BYU, UCF, USF and Arkansas State. He made official visits to UCF and Pitt in June. He also made unofficial visits to USC and BYU. USC secondary coach Torrian Gray and receivers coach Justin Stepp have been recruiting Zipperer for the Gamecocks who are also after his teammate WR Tyler Williams.

Seneca LHP Jacob McGovern (6-2 190) committed to Clemson Thursday night. McGovern was the 3A Player of the Year. Last season he was 10-0 with a 0.096 ERA. He struck out 151 while allowing 16 hits and 14 walks. Teams batted 0.067 against him.
