Gamecock Nation and sports fans across the state of South Carolina were stunned Thursday by the news of the death of former USC quarterback Phil Petty at the age of 43. Petty became ill on Wednesday and passed away shortly after 9:00 AM Thursday morning.
Petty ranks in the top ten of numerous USC offensive records. He quarterbacked the Gamecocks to a total of 17 wins in 2000 and 2001 including a pair of bowl wins over Ohio State.
Thursday night his high school coach Mac Bryan and former USC Sports Information Director Kerry Tharp joined us on SportsTalk to reminisce about #14 in Garnet & Black.
