USC football coach Shane Beamer met with the media Tuesday afternoon for the final time before the Gamecocks play their spring game on Saturday night. The Gamecocks held their 13th practice of the spring Tuesday morning and will have one more practice Thursday morning before going on display in front of the fans at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Beamer once again urged Gamecock fans to come out in big numbers to show their support for his players, and to impress the large number of recruits he expects to attend. Beamer said he has been very pleased with the effort and focus of his players throughout spring practice.
Beamer said his plan is to play a real football game with evenly divided squads. An assistant coach will serve as the head coach for each team, and Beamer plans to be on the field with his whistle.
Spencer Rattler remains the #1 quarterback and Luke Doty currently is the backup, though Beamer said Colten Gauthier and Braden Davis have also taken snaps with the second team. Rattler has taken all the snaps this spring with the first team according to Beamer.
