Coastal Carolina head men’s basketball coach Cliff Ellis is a modern-day renaissance man. Not only does he possess quite the singing voice, but the Florida State grad is also the only coach in NCAA Division 1 history to win over 170 games with four different programs. That includes CCU, where Ellis has notched 283 victories and is just twenty-four shy of becoming Coastal’s all-time wins leader.
On Wednesday, the veteran head coach dropped by SportsTalk to reflect on his career and also preview the Chanticleers championship game appearance in “The Basketball Classic”. Coastal has posted wins over Maryland Eastern Shore, Florida Gulf Coast, and South Alabama to set-up a matchup with Fresno State in the finals on Friday. CCU announced Thursday evening that due to travel issues for the Fresno State MBB team, the championship game has been moved to Friday at 6pm in Conway.
During his visit, Ellis also chimed in on the transfer-portal, Frank Martin’s dismissal at USC, and his own climb up the all-time wins list. Unfortunately, he did not dazzle us with a selection from his album, “Livin’ on Coastal Time”.
