
The South Carolina women’s basketball team topped second-ranked UConn 73-57 to claim the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in Paradise Island, Bahamas, Monday. The Gamecocks held a decided advantage in the paint, outrebounding the Huskies 42-25. Aliyah Boston led the way with 22 points and a season-high 15 rebounds.
The top-ranked Gamecocks suffered through a 20-2 UConn run before turning up the defensive intensity midway through the third quarter and outscoring UConn 16-3 over the final ten minutes. Four of Destanni Henderson’s six steals came in the second half.
South Carolina and UConn are set for a rematch at the Colonial Life Arena on Jan. 27.
The Gamecocks will next play host to Elon at 3 p.m., Friday.
