#Gamecocks will face Alabama in the opening round of the SEC Tournament (BRACKET)

USC is the #7 seed in next week’s SEC baseball tournament and will play Alabama on Tuesday afternoon (USC Athletics)

The USC baseball team will meet a fresh face in the first round (single elimination) of this year’s SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, Alabama. The Gamecocks will square off with #10-seed Alabama on Tuesday, following the matchup between Florida and Kentucky (10:30am ET). Carolina missed Alabama as part of its grueling SEC slate, which saw the Gamecocks finish 33-20 overall and 16-14 in league play.

USC concluded the regular season by losing two out of three to Tennessee over the weekend. However, should the Gamecocks beat the Crimson Tide, USC will get a rematch with them on Wednesday. The Vols are the two-seed in the tournament after posting a 20-10 conference mark. It’s the first time since 2005 that Tennessee has earned a “Top 4” tournament seed. UT was the third seed in that year’s SEC postseason tourney. The Gamecocks only SEC tournament title came in 2004.

LSU will face Georgia with Auburn squaring off against Ole Miss to complete the first round. The four winners will advance into the double-elimination portion of the tournament starting on Wednesday.

Arkansas is the number one overall seed with Mississippi State gaining the 3rd seed. #4-Vanderbilt is the other team that earned a bye into the double-elimination portion of the tournament. Saturday’s semifinals are single-elimination as well with the championship game scheduled for Sunday.
